Find a video without context

A saved clip often comes without a title or any context, like a repost or a few seconds from a longer video. Our video finder uses reverse video search to find matching footage online. Submit the clip you want to find, either as a file or a link from TikTok, YouTube, X (Twitter) or any other website, and the finder picks out the frames worth searching. From there, you find the original video, the full version, or the account that posted it.

Use cases

What are you trying to find?

Searching by video, using the clip itself to find out more about it, helps in a lot of situations. Sometimes you want the rest of a video. Sometimes you need to know who made it, whether the story attached to it adds up, or where else your own footage has been posted. Our video finder is a great tool for this because it works from the clip you already have. You don’t need a title, the creator’s name, or the website it came from. Start with the clip and end with a link to where it was posted.

Find the full video

Only have a short clip from an interview, tutorial, or longer upload? The video finder finds a version with the part before or after it, or a clearer copy of the same footage.

Find the original creator

Saved a reference for an edit, but the repost doesn’t credit anyone? Find the original video so you know who to credit or contact about using the footage.

Check the story behind a clip

Before sharing a surprising clip or using it in an article, find earlier uploads. Their dates and descriptions show whether the caption tells the whole story.

Find reposts of your own video

Search your own footage to find everywhere else it appears. You might be curious how far it spread, or looking for copies posted without your permission.

FAQ

Video finder FAQ

Is the video finder free?

Yes. The frames are free to make and download, with no account needed, and you then upload them to a reverse image search engine yourself. If you’d rather have it done for you, DeepSearch is an optional one-time fee, starting at $2.50.

What do I get with DeepSearch?

DeepSearch searches every frame for you, and if you pasted a link, it also searches the video’s own thumbnails at no extra cost. While it runs, your private results page shows your place in the queue. Once it’s done, each frame lists its matches with the site, page title, link, date, and image size, and we email you the link.

Can I find the full video from a short clip?

Sometimes. You don’t need the whole video to start, but a match depends on whether the footage appears in searchable public results. A clear, distinctive moment is a better starting point than a generic intro or a blurry shot. Finding a repost also doesn’t guarantee that the full version is still available.

Can I find a video by describing it?

This tool starts with a video file or a link to one, not a written description. If you only remember a phrase, a topic, or something that happened in the video, start with a text search. Once you have a clip, you can use it here to look for its source.

Does it work with YouTube, TikTok, and other platforms?

You can paste a link to a public video, and if a site blocks the download, the finder tells you so you can save the video and upload the file instead. The search then looks for copies across the web, not just on the site where you found the clip. It won’t find every copy, though, and it can’t open private accounts or videos behind a login.

Can I choose which part of the video is searched?

Yes, as long as you upload the file. Choose Edit video to trim the clip to the part you care about, capture frames more or less often, and set how many you get. Pasted links always use the first two minutes.

How do I know I’ve found the original video?

Check the upload date, the account that posted it, the description, and any creator credits. A longer version or a link to the creator’s own page can help you follow the trail. Even the earliest upload you find may be a repost, so treat matches as leads rather than automatic proof of who made the video.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. The video finder works in your browser on mobile and desktop, with no app to install. Pick a video from your phone or paste a link to get started.

Does my video stay on my device?

It depends on how you search. If you upload a file and search the frames yourself, everything happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded. If you paste a link, our server downloads the video to make the frames. With DeepSearch, only the frames are uploaded (never the video) and then sent to the search service we use. See our privacy policy for how that data is handled.

What should I try if there are no results?

Try a cleaner copy or a different part of the video, without unrelated intros or recording screens. The matching footage may not be publicly indexed, or edits may make it hard to recognize. No results doesn’t prove that the video is original or that no other copies exist.
